With the Supra Launch SS, those two extra letters mean extra
options to tailor the boat to your specifications. And they
aren’t just window dressing, they’re legit changes for
style and performance.
First, though, the mission of this model is the same as that of
the Launch: to produce pro-level wakes in a multisport inboard. To
fulfill that goal, the SS comes standard with a Rad-a-Cage tower,
two-bag ballast system, adjustable wake plate and swivel-head
pylon. Tracking is solid, taking on power turns the way you’d
expect from an inboard. The wakes have large, defined peaks, good
transitions and hearty double-ups.
It differs from the Launch in its size, 9 inches longer and 3
inches thinner. Taking a set on our slalom ski, we noticed fairly
soft, moderately flat wakes that advancing skiers would be
comfortable taking through the course. It’s truly a crossover
boat.
For the bow, you can choose between a playpen or walk-through
seating. Either way, you’ll get the cushy, durable upholstery
that helps give Supras a luxury feel. The rest of the interior also
has the same feel thanks to a deluxe driver’s console with
full Beede instruments, ample storage space where you need it and
40-ounce carpet to pad around on in comfort.
The last big difference from the Launch is the optional
stainless-steel tower. OK, we admit, some may call it window
dressing. But we call it the pièce de
rèsistance, a shiny wakeboard jewel to maximize the
killer style of the Launch SS.
The Lowdown:
•Good crossover versatility with near pro-level wakeboard
wakes and soft slalom wakes.
•Outfitted for wakeboarding and skiing right out of the box
with standard tower, ballast system, wake plate and swivel-head
pylon.
•Offers choice between playpen bow or walk-through
seating.
•Stainless Rad-a-Cage tower is an option that enhances the
boat’s overall wakeboard style.
•Solid inboard tracking, even when powering through
double-ups.
•Double sidewall construction helps dampen sound and
produce a safe, smooth ride.
