No,
it’s not a typo — the beam on the Tigé 21i
Limited really is 102 inches. For 2003, we haven’t seen
another 21-foot inboard that measured so wide. As always,
Tigé is big on surprises.
Introduced
in early 2002, this versatile family crossover slalom and wakeboard
boat makes the most of that side-to-side space. The storage
capacity is incredible for this class of boat, with expansive room
in the front and a large gull-wing storage locker in the rear. You
can easily walk around the motor box without turning sideways or
banging your knees. The swim platform stretches across the entire
width for lots of space to get in and out of the water. Spread-out
seating in the rear swivels around to transform into skybox seats
for up to five adults to watch the show.
The
hull’s size and 30-degree deep-V shape provide solid handling
through choppy water and double-ups. That stability prevents
swaying when pulling a rider or skier. With the deep freeboard,
passengers are nestled in for a secure ride.
Remarkably,
the slalom wakes are actually narrow and fairly soft. We had a fun
time skiing, especially at slower speeds for slalom. When we
switched to wakeboarding, we launched off big double-ups with nice
peaks. The boat’s size understandably doesn’t lend
itself to superior agility in power turns and responsiveness, but
the wake performance makes this a great recreational boat for
whatever you want to tow.
On
top of everything else, Tigé includes touches that appeal to
families. The cooler is about as big as you can get, holding 40
cans of whatever you want to ice down, and plenty of drink holders
are at the ready. Dock entry steps make it easier to get in and
out. Contoured backrests improve comfort in the bow. The Clarion
sound system pumps out music through an amazing 19 speakers.
The bow snap-out carpet allows for easier cleanup when all is
said and done. The company went to great lengths on the 21i Limited
— as well as great width.
The Lowdown:

never see in a 21-foot inboard.
•Large storage capacity in the front and rear is
exceptional.

conditions.
•Wake performance appeals to families looking to try towing
everything in their day on the lake.
•The reversible skybox seating in the rear is a welcome
innovation for viewing versatility.
•New graphics and new tower finish off the sleek
styling.
•Contoured bow backrest cushions add a luxurious
touch.
