Recommendation: Multisport

The inboard Tornado doesn't skimp on the ski performance just because it also caters to wakeboarding families. Fairly soft ski wakes mix well with kickin' ramps behind this multisport charmer. At 100 inches, it's wider than most direct-drive ski boats – one of the widest on the market. The standard tower and optional 250 pounds of rear ballast, combined with a mild V-bottom hull, make this the perfect boat for multi-water-sport families.

New this year are the charcoal dash and the silver windshield, classy touches to an already classy boat. Instead of lugging along your own cooler, just keep the drinks iced in the built-in insulated cooler, convenient for long days on the water. Toward the transom, the split rear hatch makes access to the back storage compartments a breeze. When closed, the rear hatch lids double as a nice-size sun deck. And the overabundance of storage and the easy-to-clean snap-out carpet make lake outings a lot easier.

Ski
Near tournament-quality slalom performance. We said that last year. That's our story and we're sticking to it. The wake has a touch of hardness, but skiers won't be disappointed once the wakeboarding speeds are left behind to make way for smooth arcing turns behind the boat. Although the 100-inch beam is wide, this boat truly handles like the direct-drive it is.

Wakeboard
With the optional ballast and some sacks, you can expect to get some decent wakes behind this direct-drive. Together with the mild V-bottom hull, these components can scoop out some rampy boarding wakes, enough to satisfy those intermediate-level boarders. To change from soft to kickin' in no time flat, just slow the boat, fill the ballast, adjust the trim tab to your liking and get going. Easy as that.

Lowdown
* Direct-drive handling in a wide and roomy boat – wide enough for 10.
* A multisport boat that produces respectable slalom wakes and intermediate riding wakes.
* Spacious, deep cooler in the walk-through.
* The open bow is a standout with abundant space, four cup holders and impressive storage.
* Standard tower, 200 pounds of optional rear ballast and a removable rear seat.
