MasterCraft ProStar 209 SD
Recommendation: Ski

WaterSki recently called Sammy Duvall an icon of water skiing, and this version of the ProStar 209 is worthy of his signature. MasterCraft says sales of these special “SD” editions have spiked, and we can see why, especially with the 2004 changes.
The first impression is of the pinstripe gelcoat and Duvall logos covering the boat. Everywhere we looked, the amenities were top shelf. The standard engine is a 350-hp MasterCraft MCX, with chrome valve covers and a chrome plenum as finishing touches. Black is big on the rub rail, windshield cap, fuel fill cap, ski pylon, steering wheel cover, shifter knob, dash and even motor box cup holders. The custom upholstery is as plush as ever.
With all that icing, you still get a great cake: the ProStar 209. It has wider and longer dimensions than other ProStars, with families and friends in mind. If you're looking for pro-level skiing performance, Sammy reminds you that the Prostar 190 and 197 are also available in the SD editions.
Skiing
Sammy may not have jumped to world-record lengths behind this boat, but the wakes are great for the tournament-level skier who is looking for increased versatility and room in a direct-drive. Slalom performance is best at the middle line lengths, and this boat is record-tournament approved by USA Water Ski. Shortline spray might be a concern beyond 35 off.
Wakeboarding
The crossover performance between skiing and riding is a definite standout in the 209. When optimally weighted, it inspires advanced-level moves with big, clean ramps and outstanding transition. It rides exceptionally well with ballast, and its all-around driving performance will shame you for ever thinking about buying a V-drive.
