Moomba's all-new boat for 2004, the Mobius XLV, has more of everything, aiming to be the ultimate wakeboarding machine without an ultimate sticker price. By “more,” we mean more length (23 feet), more beam (98 inches), more passenger capacity (a whopping 16), more weight (4,100 pounds – without ballast), more storage (an oversized wakeboard compartment), more tubing in the tower (a 43 percent increase), and even more cup holders (12) than any other Moomba … or most other boats.

As if that weren't enough, the freshly designed hull of this V-drive has been engineered from keel to gunwale specifically for wakeboarding, a Moomba first. It shows in the sculpted wakes, among the best we've seen, though it's crying out for you to upgrade to the hydraulic wake plate and the three-bag ballast system over the standard one-bag. When completely weighted we sensed that this large vessel's turning and responsiveness became a tad less precise, but the spacious interior made up for it. New upholstery, a bow playpen with four cushions and tons of legroom maximize the passenger comfort. And we always love to see a convertible rear-facing seat and the bonus flip-up seat next to the observer's seat to make viewing the wakeboarding action easier.

Wakeboarding
If you're on a budget and looking to take your riding experience to a new level, the Mobius XLV should top your list. With the standard 600-pound one-bag Bertha Ballast, the wakes will more than satisfy the advanced rider. Not only is the wake huge, but it has great pitch, with a smooth and gradual transition from the bottom all the way up the lip. Add the three optional Bertha Ballast bags and you'll have your crew really airing their moves into the flats. With this ballast configuration even pro riders will begin to froth at the mouth, and they'll have an abundance of size to enjoy. The double-ups are super meaty and clean.

Lowdown

-Bigger is better with the extra-long XLV.

-The Taylor Made windshield is especially wide, with thick extrusions.

-This boat exudes roominess and comfort.

-The ballast system fills quietly.

-Foam-filled double sidewall construction improves the stability of the ride and dampens noise.

-With the built-in cooler and stereo upgrades, the party begins.
