OVERVIEW
The MariStar 230 VRS was ahead of its time when MasterCraft debuted this model years ago. Even as we roll into 2005, few boats have caught up with its successful union of luxury appointments, family-friendly features,
V-drive performance and water-sports appeal.
The 230 is a great choice for families in the market for a big runabout who want a much better experience than an I/O can offer. The seating is especially expansive in the open bow and wraparound lounge, which measures in at 90 cubic feet. It has thick, cushy upholstery with premium stitching and color accents.
Driving this boat is as much a pleasure as riding in it. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is a posh touch, the seat bolster enhances the visibility, and the dash is both stylish and functional. Start the engine and you're quick to plane with a deep-V hull that slices through any conditions. The 230 VRS hasn't lost a step.
SKIING
The 230 VRS wakes definitely won't be confused with the whisper-soft ones of MasterCraft's high-end slalom machines, but they won't be mistaken for an I/O's sloppy wakes, either. At skiing speeds, the low draft at the transom evens out the trough and peaks for wakes worthy of recreational skiers.
WAKEBOARDING
The V-drive's engine weight in the rear, the same hull as the X-30 and the size of this boat contribute to good wakeboarding wakes right out of the box. Beginning riders can jump into the sport at shorter line lengths because of the wider table. Add an available tower and ballast system to do it right.
LOWDOWN
• A beefier size than the 210 without going to the extremes of larger MariStars.
• Every storage compartment from the glove box to the two rear storage trunks carves out as much space for gear as possible.
• Wraparound seating, wide sun deck and open bow with optional filler cushion are perfect for lounging.
• Base model offers recreational level of skiing and wakeboarding.
