OVERVIEW
As MasterCraft's flagship multisport boat, the 205V gives you a day on the water in which everything is on the table, from skiing to wakeboarding to cruising with 10 of your closest friends. With a V-drive and the same hull as the highly successful X-2, it has a wakeboarding vibe, mingled with the appointments you'd expect from the ProStar line – namely a ski pylon and a svelte 90-inch beam. Though it's the shortest of the V-drives, there's no want for passenger space or storage. A center floor console contains a ski storage locker, and the three-piece sun deck pads and observer's seat cover more than ample stowing capacity. Drivers will find it easy to multitask behind the wheel with a console that sports two tournament speedometers, and an oversized mirror that takes in the full scene behind. A multiport fuel-injected 310 hp V-8 and parabolic tracking fins give this boat the agility of a direct-drive.
SKIING
At faster speeds the wakes start to dissolve for a ride that's free-skier friendly. With a 90-inch beam, the 205V will provide narrow wakes for skiers at novice and mid-level line lengths. This boat drives and skis suspiciously like a direct-drive, which is why it has been a test team favorite among V-drives for skiing and crossover performance.
WAKEBOARDING
The 205V puts out moderately big, well-defined wakes that are equally appealing to beginners and experts with the right ballast configuration. Additional ballast is kept from pulling the boat off track by the nimbleness of the VectorDrive and the three parabolic tracking fins.
LOWDOWN
- The best crossover tow boat in the MasterCraft line.
- Two hinged trunk compartments can accommodate fat sacks or loads of equipment.
- The VectorDrive engine maximizes safety since it is tucked up under the hull away from the transom.
- For the same boat with a full-on wakeboard setup, including the KGB ballast system, ZeroFlex Flyer tower and some other goodies, the X-2 is the way to go.
