OVERVIEW
For skiers who get their kicks at shorter line lengths but want to share the experience with the family, the ProStar 209 is a great transition from the smaller 190/197, with a little drop in performance potential. Not only is this tow boat USA Water Ski tournament-record-approved, it's the most spacious record-capable boat on the market, with all the features that make it an attractive, family-friendly multisport package. A wider beam means more storage area, more room to add ballast for those occasional wakeboarding outings, and more chill space for the kids. If the youngsters make a mess playing in the open bow, a snap-out carpet and stain-resistant coating on the vinyl make short work of cleanups.
The new Indmar 310 hp Vortec RTP-1 gives the ProStar 209 enough torque out of the hole to lift even heavy skiers quickly.
SKIING
The ProStar line's heftiest hull gives skiers who range between 28 and 32 off the smoothest ride with small, attackable wakes. Shortline spray becomes an issue beyond 35 off, when you would probably want to move over to the ProStar 197. At 22 off there's a bit of a bump.
WAKEBOARDING
Load the 209 with three ballast bags and you'll get medium-size wakes with smooth ramps — perfect for the family with kids still earning their chops on their boards. The crossover wake performance behind the 209 makes it a top choice for the family looking for a multisport boat.
LOWDOWN
• The walk-through is wide enough to allow even beefy passengers into the bow section without having to inhale first.
• An extended ski locker and integrated self-draining cooler are neatly concealed beneath the walk-through.
• A snug bucket seat, high-riding bolster and low-profile dash pod give the driver a good space to work from.
