OVERVIEW
In a Moomba lineup that prides itself on value, the Mobius LS may be the best deal in the bunch. At just under $30,000, you get a wakeboard boat, a ski boat and a family boat. Especially for those buyers thinking they're going to be limited to I/Os, the Mobius LS is the perfect entrée to the beauty of inboards.
The boat's most obvious assets are the wakeboard tower, edgy hull graphics and one-bag rear ballast system, all standard. Those are the tools to get you hooked on wakeboarding. Yet when you add the optional swivel-head pylon, minimize the weight and boost the speed, the Mobius LS performs well enough for true slalom skiing. All family members can take their turns behind this boat, no matter their sport or skill level. There's also universal appeal in the 100 percent hand-laid fiberglass and foam-filled construction, stringers to deck, which gives a safe, stable ride.
SKIING
As a direct-drive model with moderate beam, the Mobius LS may be marketed as a wakeboard boat, but it delivers wakes soft enough for the slalom course. It has the usual bump at 22 off, but beyond that, intermediate skiers won't have a problem. Recreational skiers will enjoy a fairly soft ride at 15 off across the wake.
WAKEBOARDING
Some direct-drives can get bogged down when you add ballast, but the Mobius LS handles it well, even with the upgrade to the double ballast system rear and front. Because of that, the wakes can grow to a size perfect for an intermediate rider working on becoming an advanced rider.
LOWDOWN
• The price of the Mobius LS puts an inboard within reach of the I/O world.
• Wakeboarding features wrap around the heart of a direct-drive ski boat for multisport fun.
• New gauges include depth finder and tach with LCD hour meter.
