Moomba Mobius XLV
OVERVIEW
The true resourcefulness of Moomba is on display in the Mobius XLV. To hold the sticker price relatively low on this high-end specialty wakeboarding boat, Moomba knows exactly where to scrimp — no stainless-steel cup holders here — and where to splurge, namely on construction and design.
The deck, hull and stringers are full hand-laid fiberglass worthy of a limited lifetime warranty. The hull cuts deeper into the water for bigger wakes, while the high freeboard adds extra security for as many as 16 people on board. Plunging below the seating, a remarkable five storage compartments have enough space to stow wakeboards.
Other touches of extravagance include the flip-up seat in the walk-through that lets one passenger face forward, one backward. And new for 2005, the beefy tower can fold inside the boat. Options let you upgrade the ballast, stereo and engine and add a wake plate.
WAKEBOARDING
The Mobius XLV is the way to get into serious wakeboarding without seriously stressing your budget. You can tune both the size and the shape of the wakes to a pro level, as evidenced by the XLV's past inclusion in the Gravity Games. Moomba designers created the hull specifically for wakeboarding, which explains the terrific pitch and silky-smooth transition. Out of the box, the XLV itself weighs a hefty 3,600 pounds and comes with a 600-pound center-bag ballast. That kicks up big enough swells for advanced riders. With the three-bag upgrade and hydraulic wake plate, brace yourself for some unbelievable double-ups.
