MasterCraft Boats ProStar 190 2007

BOAT REVIEW
Yes, MasterCraft still makes the ProStar 190. Just the fact that we have to state that shows how much the water-sports boat market has changed. MasterCraft’s amazing success as a company is rooted in creating world-class, closed-bow, envy-of-the-slalom-world ski machines. Yet in the interim decades, the closed bows have been overtaken by the open bows, the direct-drives by the V-drives. As MasterCraft has greatly expanded its model lineup, this traditional ski boat has always been a part of it—and been considered a premier pure ski boat. The 2007 edition of the ProStar 190 is no exception.

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
We have to borrow one of MasterCraft’s marketing lines here: “The ProStar 190 is closed for business.” That’s a clever way to sum up what the 190 is all about. Most tournament skiers this season will likely find themselves behind a ProStar 197 at some point, since that open-bow version of this same incredible hull has become much more ubiquitous. It’s more family-friendly, allowing for passengers to sit in the bow.

But for those skiers serious about the business of three-event skiing, the 190 is a choice boat. In recent years, this hull has pulled world records in slalom, trick and jump. That only represents the tip of the iceberg in terms of the number of other records and personal bests set with this flared design that has a reduced running surface. One test drive makes it clear how that’s possible. The wakes are unbelievably small and soft from recreational line lengths all the way into the deepest shortlines. There are no worries about chine spray. And now with MasterCraft’s standard cruise control, it’s easy for almost any driver to generate a consistent, tournament-quality pull with the 190.
