BOAT REVIEW
The MB Sports 230 V is a wakeboarding wolf dressed up in a quiet sheep’s clothing. But that’s not a bad thing for this multifaceted 23-foot V-drive. It’s got all the essentials for a full day of wake sports, including a choice of two optional towers with board racks, as well as a host of features–like comfy seats, coolers and storage space–that the whole of the family will love. And this year the sleek style of the 230 V takes on a more modern persona with the addition of new billet accents, so you can attack those wakes in style.
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
At a glance, the 230 V may look like a tasteful family-oriented boat. But the monster wakes thrown up by the 2,000-pound ballast system deserve a double take, and on second look, it’s clear this V-drive has an unmistakable wakeboarding attitude. The wakes are huge with gradual transitions and broad landing zones, great for more lateral moves. MB says this defined shape is due to a stabilized ballast system with two tanks that run the length of the boat. Even when you upgrade to the 2,100-pound Triple-Up system, the weight is redistributed, not just added on, so the balance is maintained.
Then again, you may decide to empty the ballast tanks altogether and take some open-water skiing sets. And considering this boat’s relatively narrow beam (just 96 inches), you’d be more than satisfied with the smallish wakes behind it. That width will also afford the driver nimble handling and responsive turns, making it versatile enough to keep riders and skiers entertained, and drivers and passengers feeling secure.
