The Mobius XLV isn’t just the flagship of the Moomba line because it’s the biggest and widest. It also has a dramatic hull that makes it worthy of pulling pro wakeboard tournaments. Overall, it’s a very impressive wakeboard and ski boat that balances that size and performance with the need to rein in the final price, which this year crossed the $40K barrier to a still low $42,595. That’s still a great price considering everything mentioned so far, plus new creature comforts, a standard EFI engine, proven engineering and hand-laid fiberglass construction.
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
If you get a chance on the showroom floor or on the trailer before you test drive this boat, ask your dealer to show you why the hull works so well. At first glance you’ll notice the dynamic drop-keel design in the front that plunges into the water and knifes through it. That low profile carves out significant displacement of the water, which is the key to forming large wakes for wakeboarding and wake surfing. Farther back along the boat are cutouts that make the 98-inch beam seem narrower than it is, so the wakes are narrower and therefore better for wake-to-wake moves. There also isn’t much in the way of lifting strakes, since that would just counter the ballast used to make the water displacement even greater.
All of that combines to make the XLV a top-notch boat that’s pulled the women competitors at the Gravity Games for years now. Those attributes also contribute to great wake-surfing wakes at slower speeds and with the ballast shifted.
