Recommendation: MULTISPORT
OVERVIEW
We can't help but look at this D215 and think of the possibilities. Not only is it designed to easily cross over from ski performance to wakeboarding wakes, but the potential for everything from tubing to barefooting is terrific. The direct-drive engine keeps the tracking balanced, while the size promotes nimble turning and very easy stowing and trailering. The interior layout is perfect for those boat buyers who can't decide between direct-drive handling and a V-drive-style interior. The D215 has both. For family boaters looking for a full weekend of activities, it's hard to find something this boat can't do.
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
Every aspect of the D215's design applies to some on-the-water activity. This model debuted only last year, so it reflects the latest thinking as specialty ski machines have morphed into family water-sports boats. Take the V-bottom hull. It carves into the water to generate wakeboarding wakes, especially with the extra help of ballast. Passengers can improve wakes, too, by sitting far back in the rear wraparound lounge. The Wake Series package piles on all the great wakeboarding amenities to enhance the D215.
For skiing, the hull's lifting strakes serve to reduce the wake around 30 mph and above. And as a skier cuts back and forth, the triple tracking fins help keep the D215 on a true line, which really comes in handy when going through the boat guides of the slalom course. Barefooters also enjoy it, with Sanger promising deepwater starts to 40 mph in less than eight seconds. The world-record holder in speed barefooting is on the Sanger staff, so that certainly helps.
