BOAT REVIEW
A V-drive boat doesn’t have to be oversized. Ski Supreme proves that with the V220, uniting the roomy interior layout made possible by the rear-mounted engine with the dexterous handling of a 21-foot-4-inch boat that’s 90 inches wide. Because Supreme makes wakeboard and ski boats with more of a custom feel, much attention has been paid both to that performance and to the fit and finish throughout. The idea is to make no compromises, whether in the construction or the water-sports potential. The optional Sky package adds a tower, ballast, stereo and custom graphics.
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
The V220 looks to replicate the nimble turning and tracking that the direct-drive version, the 220SP, enjoys. It turns to either side in a snap, yet its deep-V entry helps keep it on a line and powers it through rough conditions and rollers. Having the interior set deep with high gunwales serves to enhance the smooth ride, as does a running surface that tapers from the bow to a mellower V shape. Whether accelerating to 30 mph in 5.5 seconds with the 330-horsepower engine upgrade or going past 45 mph on the top-end speed, the V220 impresses. And a 49-gallon fuel tank means there’s no need to go back to the dock anytime soon.
The 720 pounds that the Sky ballast system provides boosts the amplitude of the wakes to a size suitable for most wakeboarders at beginning to intermediate skill levels. The landing zones are long and smooth. Combining narrow width with a lip that thankfully isn’t too abrupt, these wakes are just begging for wake-to-wake moves out into the flats.
