Supra Comp 20 2007

BOAT REVIEW

With Supra’s emphasis on luxury amenities, it’s sometimes easy to overlook the performance. The Comp 20 is a terrific reminder that underneath all that bling is a high-end water-sports boat.

This particular Supra is tailored to the slalom course, having earned approval from USA Water Ski for record tournaments. In addition to that, the Comp 20 is also wrapped in leather-like vinyl and other luxury amenities. It definitely stands out both for its looks and its ski wakes.

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
For ski enthusiasts who are also Supra loyalists, the Comp 20 is the ultimate choice. It has everything: quick hole shot, straight-line tracking, nimble handling, and soft wakes that are easy to cross whether you’re at recreational or tournament-level line lengths. The usual bump at 22 off isn’t even much of an issue. It’s a great ski boat.

This year, the Comp 20 has the new Smart Plate as a standard feature. That’s a big deal with the wakeboarding models, but don’t forget the role it can play in skiing. Keeping the plate up makes the wake as soft as possible. Put it down, and the wakes may harden, but the rooster tail can move to be less disruptive to a skier crossing back and forth. This year the “Smart” aspect means skiers can customize their plate settings so it will rise or drop just as much as they want it to at the exact mph they want, so really all the driver has to do is keep a steady line through those slalom course boat guides.
