Supra Launch 21V 2007

BOAT REVIEW

The Launch 21 V hovers just outside the limelight of its big brothers, the Launch 22 SSV and 24 SSV. It still has everything that makes a Supra such a great wakeboarding boat, only in a slightly smaller package that’s designed to be a deeper, smoother, drier ride. It’s the Goldilocks boat–perfect for families not too big but not too small, and great for wakeboarders not too pro but not too newbie. With a full-on wakeboarding package, it’s ready to hit it right out of the showroom.

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
Supra’s new Smart Plate makes a big difference with this 21 V. For three years, Supra engineers worked to have PerfectPass not just control the speed, but signal the moment to deploy the hydraulic plate as well. Doing that helps shape the wake to a rider’s liking, as well as helping a ballast-heavy boat get up on plane. Without engaging the plate, the 21 V’s wakes tend to be a little steeper than the norm, which some riders like, while some don’t. The plate can tweak the transition and the peak to customize it for a wakeboarder’s particular style. Shortening the tow rope helps dial in the sweet spot further, with an especially good ride at 60 to 65 feet.

Since the 21 V isn’t too oversized, it has more potential for crossover into skiing than bigger V-drives do. We’re not talking slalom sets, but fun open-water skiing at 30-plus mph. Slow it down, load it up, and those wakeboarding wakes magically appear again.
