BOAT REVIEW
This all-new RZ2 has the performance and cutting-edge style lines that will attract the hipper wakeboarding crowd, but it has all the amenities and space that families love. It may also be the hot must-have design that sets it apart as a standout boat for 2007. The two-pronged bow is the most obvious aspect, but the sides and transom have cool styling cutouts that create unique angles and a fresh vibe. With the ConvexV hull and its wide and cavernous bow and a cockpit lounge, the RZ2 can forgo ballast and pile on loads of friends.
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
The meaning behind the name says a lot about the RZ2, which has been three years in the making. It stands for “razor’s edge,” a design style found in many Italian sports cars. (The “2″ signifies its 22-foot length.) That’s why all the dramatic angles look unlike most anything else in the boat market, because the ideas came from outside boating. A major challenge was literally figuring out how to break the mold, since all those styling shapes made it harder to extract.
But one thing did carry over from another boat: the actual running surface. It’s virtually the same patented ConvexV hull that is on the Tigé 22Vé, a model that debuted for 2006 with wakes that go from incredibly mellow to nicely peaky, depending on the setting of the TAPS2 plate. That’s why the RZ2 is consistent with Tigé’s providing an effective alternative for creating wakeboard wakes suitable for most riders. The ConvexV hull shape allows it to settle in the water naturally, creating tremendous displacement and large wakes without added ballast. No ballast means less hassle and better boat handling. Experts who want even more RZ2 wake will find that they need less ballast than in other boats.
