Ski Boat Review
In its second model year, the Malibu Boats Response FXi continues to deliver much of the same impressive ski boat performance as the Malibu Boats LXi, but with a roomier interior layout thanks to its wide, 98-inch beam that welcomes more people and water-sports interests than just high-end slalom skiing. Go with the optional Illusion G3 weightless fold-down, gas-spring-assisted tower; patented Power Wedge; and 400 pounds of ballast and witness the fun crossover potential for wakeboarding, wakeskiing or whatever it is you enjoy.
COMFORT
The Malibu Response FXi certainly doesn’t feel like a 20-foot ski boat, but the Malibu Boats design team really maximized space by expanding the beam and carving out more depth in the cockpit. Since driving the Malibu Boats Response FXi can be every bit as fun as skiing behind it, the captain is well taken care of with a swivel driver’s seat that offers lumbar support, a beautiful hand-wrapped vinyl dash available with MaliView and all of the controls in easy reach.
WAKE PERFORMANCE
This USA Water Ski record-approved tow boat isn’t that much different than its older sibling, the Malibu Response LXi. The wakes are soft, forgiving and easy to attack at most line lengths. The wake will please high-end slalom-oriented athletes as much as the do-it-all weekend warrior.
STANDOUTS
1. Slick windshield: The frameless MH2 windshield really adds flare to the progressive lines of the FXi.
2. Cut Diamond hull: A wonderful blend of performance attributes that appeal to both the skier and the driver.
3. Family-friendly interior space: The broad 98-inch beam and high freeboard give passengers wiggle room and added safety.
