What do you think needs to be done to break your own world record? Do you believe you can go further?
I’m going to try. It’s really easy for me to put on muscle, partially I think because of my genetics. I’m a pretty big guy, but in my family I’m relatively small. So I think strength-wise I felt pretty good this season, but for 2013 I want to try and be a bit lighter. I definitely want to stay strong but drop some weight, which will help keep up my speed better for 41 and 43 off.

Your off-season is coming soon after the World Cup stop in Indonesia. Are you ready for some time off the water?
Absolutely. Oh, man, when I learned that the World Cup stop was in Indonesia on Thanksgiving weekend, I wanted to cry [laughs]. My girlfriend, Kahla, is a pastry chef, and she wanted to make Thanksgiving dinner for the family. She made it last year and it was to die for, and now I’m going to miss it.

So, after Indonesia, what are your plans for the off-season?
I’m going to be training very hard in the gym. I’m definitely going to up my cardio to try and get leaner and lighter for a stronger 2013 season.

We heard you just relocated to Tampa. What were your main reasons for that move?
Before moving here, I used to come out here twice a week to coach and ski. I’ve built a great relationship with the Morgan family, my girlfriend got a job promotion out here, and everything just seemed to work out well, so I made the change.
