Do you deal with pro tournaments and record tournaments differently?
I think it’s the same for everybody across the board. Automatically, there’s more pressure at a pro event. It’s just the way it is. I try not to get all worked up about it. Prior to any tournament, I focus on having a good week of skiing, with a good plan going into the event. Then I just go out there and do the best I can. The only reason I go to record tournaments is to break a new world record. That’s my whole intention. I’m not there to try and challenge anybody. Yes, if Nate or Will is there, it might get a little competitive, but I’m just trying to go out there and set a record. For pro events, there’s obviously strategy involved. It’s a different environment. You have to ski smart. You can’t go out there and just try to crush the “billy” as hard as you can at 41 off. You can take more risks at a record tournament because there’s really nothing to lose. In a pro event, if you ski overly aggressive, you could pay the price for that. It’s a different mind-set.

Parrish says Zero Off’s new RevR setting is helping him get a more consistent gate because of its slightly faster gate entry. Nice work here at 39 getting the ski moving across course before the boat enters the gates. It’s key to being light on the line. Photo: Todd Ristorcelli
