Although Kris LaPoint’s official birthday was January 23, the archaic slalom legend was entertained by his friends and family with a 60th birthday roast at Gordon Rathbun’s Ski Paradise in Acapulco, Mexico on February 9. The evening festivities were highlighted by a blonde wig tribute to LaPoint’s early days in the sport when he was ripping turns on the Maherajah. Elite skiers like Nate Smith, Andy Mapple, Thomas Degasperi, Will Asher and Chris Parrish, who are all in town for a Ski Paradise Dream Week tournament later this week, all took part in paying tribute to one of slalom’s greatest icons. Rathbun says, “Some of his gifts included Cialis, nose hair clippers, Ultra Bengay and some other things that we shouldn’t publish.”
LaPoint didn’t take too much punishment, though. In fact, mostly praise. Mapple acknowledged how tough Kris was as a competitor, and how much he’s done for ski research and advancement of the sport. Happy belated birthday, Kris.
