Every skier has had a slack line and we all hate the feeling. It costs valuable time in the course, it can make you miss buoys, and it prevents you from achieving your personal best. Here are some ways I keep my line tight in the course behind the Malibu Response TXi. — Will Asher
Get Your Wakes Right
Coming off your edge early or going straight into a buoy are two ways slack is created and both can be caused by getting kicked by aggressive wakes. The Response TXi’s wakes are so small and soft that you have maximum confidence to keep your edge the entire time. The sooner you can get out there the sooner you can start your turn back in and the TXi gives you more time.
Always Be Turning
Another way slack is created is by running in the same direction as the boat. In order to keep the tightest line possible, stay on edge and ski away from the boat as much as possible and transition through your turns as quickly as possible.
Stay On Track
The Response TXi has such a positive pull and straight tracking that it gives the skier a consistent, perfect tow through the wake. The path never wavers, so you are strong through the wakes every time, and the stronger you are the more time you have before the buoy.
Set Your Speed
Zero-Off reacts to what you do. If you give a stronger pull, the boat reacts accordingly so you always have the optimal speed for keeping a tight line. As a result, Zero-Off ties in with the Response TXi’s soft wakes and arrow-straight tracking to give you the most time in the course. My personal setting is A3 because it’s the perfect mix of responsiveness and aggression, which gives me more time to finish my turn before the boat takes me.
Get Consistent, Captain
In the Reponse TXi, the driver has a really good feel for the skier, which makes it easier for the driver to control the line tension. Also, since the TXi tracks so well and maintains such consistent speed, the driver’s job is far less complicated than in other boats.
